Storytelling - The Ant and The Grasshopper

The second story we have got for you under the storytelling theme is of 'The Ant and The Grasshopper'. This story is about a hardworking ant and a laid-back grasshopper and other such characters. The laid-back characters spend their summer dancing and singing around whereas the Ant working hard and storing up food for winter season. They considered the Ant foolish for working in advance for the winter season. However, when the season arrived that year, they all went to the Ant for help, food and shelter. However, the Ant refused to help them because it had saved only enough for its own family. The moral of the story #TheAntAndTheGrasshopper being that everybody should work when there is time and not always depend on the future.

The depiction for this story will be done by us in shadow theater format and that is why we have created the concerned characters out of black sheet. Moreover, as it is a shadow theater show, the background needed for this kind of setting is also in cut-out format on black sheet. So, let's get into the tutorial for creating the characters and background for this story.

Follow the step-by-step picture tutorial below to make these characters and background.

Supplies Needed:

Step 1: Take printout of cliparts of the following characters for our story, Flying Owl, Still Owl, Ant with food on its back, Ant standing position, Grasshopper, Rat.

Step 2: Cut the clipart characters roughly and place them on a black sheet.

Step 3: Now you have to cut the black sheet along with the clipart printout so you can get the character cut outs from the black sheet.

Step 4: Stick all the characters on the sticks with the help of tape as shown in the image.

Step 5: Cut a spring background on a black sheet and leave some paper at the bottom to be folded later.

Step 6: Similarly, cut a winter background on a black sheet and leave some paper at the bottom to be folded later.

Step 7: Now, we’ll fold the extra paper at the bottom to make a platform for the spring and winter backgrounds to stand on their own.

All the characters and backgrounds are now ready!
