Let's Go Shopping - Learning about Money

We have come up with another project to teach kids about money. Our today's project will teach kids about being wise with money and about the concepts of addition & subtraction, hence, two problems solved! These concepts are vital to prepare your kids for everyday usage of money. You sure do not want your kids to overspend or worse, lose money because of miscalculations.

Today's project is ‘Let’s Go Shopping'. The project works in two ways to teach about the 2 concepts.

So, follow the steps below to form the perfect project to involve your kids in learning about these interesting and important concepts.

Supplies Needed: Stationary, plain white sheets, lamination sheets, stickers, dot stickers.

Step 1: You'll be first giving kids a list of items from a bakery and write how much does a single quantity of each product cost. You can make 2 different lists for the different projects or you can use the same list as it suits you. We have used 2 examples i.e. supermarket and bakery shopping. Here, we have used stickers to represent products however you can simply write the names of the products and their pricing. Also, we have laminated these lists for long-term use.

Step 2: For teaching them about addition we have used the bakery items list. You ask the kids to choose products from the list and make a shopping bill. We’ll use the duplicate product stickers to list the items for the bill and dot stickers for writing their price tags in the bill section. You’ll then ask them to do a grand total for all the items listed so as to put their addition skills to use.

Step 3: For teaching them about subtraction we have used the supermarket list. You give the kids a budget i. e. a particular amount of money which will be their wallet total. Now they have to make a list of items they can buy in that sum of money so as to put their subtraction skills to use.

These two games will be fun for the kids but will teach them about every important concepts in life. Happy Play! Enjoy!
